Middlesex County Massachusetts
"Where It All Began"
District 5, Middlesex County, Massachusetts spans from the Charles River in Cambridge in the east, to the New Hampshire boarder in the north, to the cities and towns that surround Interstate 495 and Intersate 90 corridors in the west and southwest of Boston. At the center of our district are the historic towns of Lexington and Concord, where our first citizen soldiers, the colonial minutemen, fired the "shot heard around the world" in April, 1775. It's where Lieutenant General George Washington took command of the Continental Army. Middlesex County is home to Fort Devens in Ayer where thousands of American men joined the US Army to train to fight in the First World War 104 years ago in Europe. Today, it is home to Hanscom Air Base's Air Force Life Cycle Management Center Electronic Systems Complex and Natick Soldiers Research and Engineering Center, two of the Department of Defense's major research and development, acquisition centers of excellence. It is also the home of the world renown Boston Marathon starting line in Hopkington, Massachusetts. Several colleges and universities including Harvard University and Massachusetts Instute of Technology call Middlesex County their home. As it was over 246 years ago, Middlesex County residents continue to volunteer to serve and protect our nation and our heritage, which is why we are proud to say, District 5, Middlesex County: "Where It All Began".
